英國西蒙Simon R Leach 個人(rén)影展
關于展覽“美”的解說(shuō)
美麗,就(jiù)像藝術(shù)家本身(shēn),包含着很多東西。形狀、線條裡(lǐ)藏着美感,事物表面的觸感、觀衆的審美價值以及光(guāng)線裡(lǐ)也都(dōu)蘊藏着美。這些美的光(guāng)芒讓我們去(qù)觀看(kàn),去(qù)欣賞。
數年(nián)來(lái),西蒙•裡(lǐ)奇一直在探索“美”的本質。他(tā)注重簡潔,優雅和有涵養。他(tā)認爲這些特質都(dōu)是“美”應當具有的内在品質。這份工(gōng)作(zuò)利用音樂和影像去(qù)影響創作(zuò)過程。十九世紀二三十年(nián)代好萊塢的“黃(huáng)金時代”、六十年(nián)代歐洲沿海地區的衰落以及與之形成鮮明對比的東方傳統的簡約式優雅,都(dōu)給西蒙提供了源源不斷的靈感。本次展覽選擇的關于這段發展時期的照(zhào)片,不僅交流了關于“美”這一概念的典範,而且對西蒙的眼光(guāng)以及對“美”的理(lǐ)解有了一個交流,并将其圖像化。
西蒙深深紮根于相(xiàng)機(jī)背後的技術(shù)知識以及人(rén)生(shēng)經驗。作(zuò)爲一個受過訓練的職業攝影師(shī),他(tā)也學習符号學,研究通過視覺意象如(rú)何向觀衆傳遞信息。這項學習讓西蒙了解到觀衆的性情、他(tā)們對一份作(zuò)品的感受力以及能帶入到這一作(zuò)品裡(lǐ)的影響力。有了這樣的認識,他(tā)設法把觀衆的注意力吸引到圖片的核心元素上,以求能更順利地與他(tā)們交流該作(zuò)品的概念。西蒙的作(zuò)品裡(lǐ)大(dà)量使用了女(nǚ)性角色。他(tā)專注于運用已被廣泛接受了的關于美的社會結構,柔軟的質地,輪廓和舉止來(lái)吸引觀衆的注意。

Statement on Imagery - 'Beauty'
'Beauty', like the artist himself, is about many things. Beauty in form and line, beauty in the tactile nature of surface, beauty as the aesthetic value of the viewer and beauty of light - the illumination of those things that allow us to behold and appreciate.
Over a number of years Simon R Leach has been exploring the nature and essence of beauty, drawing focus on the simplicity, elegance and sophistication which he feels are inherent qualities in an ideal of beauty. The work draws on both music and imagery to influence the process. Considerable inspiration has been gained from the 1920's and 30's, Hollywood's 'Golden Era', but also from the decadence of the European Riviera of the 1960's and the contrasting simple elegance of the traditional Orient. Selected works from throughout this period of development both communicate the ideals of the concept, but also seek to visualise and communicate Simon's understanding and vision.
Firmly grounded and informed by a technical knowledge and experience of a life behind the camera, as a trained professional photographer, Simon has also studied semiotics. The way in which the viewer is spoken to, through visual imagery. This study enables Simon to understand the perception and influence the viewer can bring to a work, their own personal disposition. With this understanding he seeks to draw the viewer to the key elements of an image to communicate its concept more successfully. Predominantly using the female form Simon draws upon widely understood social constructs of beauty, smoothness of texture, contour and demeanour to gain his viewer's attention.
Although beauty in this work is explored through the photography of individual people, their images are captured in a very systematic, and controlled manner. Simon takes time to position and light each almost as you would an inanimate object. Building on an existing body of work, this exhibition will include previously unseen works produced specifically for this venue (works in production at time of writing).

Artists Statement – Simon R Leach
Simon says he is not quite sure how this all happened, but he is making make the most of the journey.
Having first fired a camera shutter aged seven, he then fell into a career as a photographer at aged 16. From that point on he has been obsessed with photographs, communication, technique, creator rights and the photographic industry. He has studied formally twice, achieving a City and Guilds at GLOSCAT and then a BA (HONS) from the prestigious Blackpool College. The rest, as they say, has been trail, error and persistence. Having worked throughout his 25 year career in commercial and advertising photography, Simon has always understood and explored the importance and the nature of individualism, personal style and clarity of message, for a creator. Through this personal development and individual vision Simon has recently been gaining interest from the International Photographic Art world.
In addition to being a creator and communicator, Simon is passionate about the photographic community, the industry that surrounds it and the rights that are so vital to an individual's work. He has developed an extensive and varied network of contacts, been honoured to be invited as a judge to a number of international photographic awards, given numerous lectures, spoken on radio, and been published as a contributing author. He has been and is a member of a number of photographic organisations and volunteers time to assist these where possible. Most recently Simon spent six years as a non-executive director of the Association of Photographers in London and had the honour of spending four years as its president, to date the longest continuous term of any in the organisation's history. What has he left? Well, the surprise of where his continuing love affair with photography takes him next.
